I have very bad teeth. Need alot of work, don't have alot of $. Any ideas???

Why my teeth are bad is a long story. But I cannot smile anymore.(haven't been able to for years) alot of cavitys, discolored, etc. Does anyone have any ideas about financial help for me? Like I said, Have some ins. but it will still cost me $1000's. I only make enough $ to support myself. Anything would be appreciated

If you have insurance, go to a dental college.

When I was in grad school at USC, my regular dentist told me I needed a root canal. I was working at the time and my insurance didn't cover the entire cost of the procedure.

I went to the dental school and had it done for FREE! And they did a very good job. The next time I went to my dentist, he took Xrays "just to see" and he was impressed.
Reply:A lot of dentist will work with you on payment plans. Mine does. The key is to call around and check. Find someone compassionate. Get the most important work done first (probably the cavities). If you have a dental school in your area, I'd start there. A lot of the time, they'll do the work for a lot cheaper than a private dentist. Plus all the students are working with certified dentist.

Good luck with everything.
Reply:If you are low income, there's state programs to help with medical and dental.

Google your area for free clinics that offer dentistry. Normally there's like a couple weeks wait to see the dentist, but if you need alot of work, its worth it.
Reply:Maybe a dental school, see if they would work on your teeth as a teaching experience for free. I am not sure how good the work would be, however if your teeth are that bad, it's a health issue and it would be better than nothing.

Good luck to you.
Reply:I understand COMPLETELY. I'm going through the same thing. Crowns, fillings, you name it. I have recently given up my car, so I can afford to take better care of myself.

My dentist is taking it slowly and working on the worst teeth first. Unfortunately insurance will only cover up to a certain amount, so I've only been able to do a couple teeth a year. Slow?...yes! But as long as I keep going to the cleanings it won't get any worse, right?

Make sure you know what your insurance provider will cover so you don't go over the amount and find yourself in a bigger hole.

The dental school is a fairly good idea, but most dentists will work out a reasonable payment plan with you.

Other than that...I don't think a loan would be a good idea, where it would be another payment for you to make. And I don't mean this in a condescending way, but could you maybe get a small job on the side? Like house cleaning?
Reply:try a community action group in your area.ie jobs and family serives try anything ,you will get sick ,it is sick in the US there is little help but there is lots of money to kill folks in a war isnt there?mark my word you will get your do goodie gooders that a dead enemy boby is worth your teeth,i dont.you come first, good luck
Reply:Lots of good ideas here but I have heard of many good dentists across the border in Mexico if You live in Califonia or Arizona or even Texas you might want to do some research.I worked with a mexican girl who told me her teeth were so pretty because she had an awsome cheap dentist in Mexico.Really if your interested theres lots of info on the internet.Best wishes. Just type in Mexico and dental clinics do some research.just an idea it is much cheaper.
