Why do a lot of British people have bad teeth?

When I see them on TV a lot of British people have crooked or yellow teeth.





Even the Royal family have bad teeth.





I was watching British movie stars and many of them have bad teeth too!

The short answer is that we don't treat our water with fluoride as you Americans do. And in answer to your second query, yes, I believe Americans do obsess too much about "perfect" teeth.

Reply:If you're looking for a serious answer, I can give you one. Historically, rich people sported bad teeth as it showed they could afford sugar. Since Britain was the first industrialised country in the world, it was the first to have mass urbanisation, and as people moved off of farms the quality of their diets declined. This was a long time ago but the former factor in particular created a mindset that dental care wasn't a priority, and the American obsession with perfect teeth was frivolous.





However things are changing, as this news story below will tell you.

I have straight white teeth and they are all my own.

the guests on that show dont usually have any teeth atall.

if you're goin on actors well considering they only make up a tiny percentage of our population they are hardly anything to go on.

It beggars belief that anyone in a Western Industrialised nation could have such a poor level of education. And that they would be quite so happy to display it in a virtually racist post on a public forum!
Reply:I think that's a stereotype. I've only been to London twice, recently, and I thought everyone's teeth looked very nice. Also, the teeth of my British co-workers (all 4 of them) look better than mine! I HAVE seen what you're talking about, though. It's a shame that a few people make everyone else look bad.
