My Yorkie has bad teeth?

My yorkie is 5 years old, perfectly healthy (1.5lbs) so says the vet, but her teeth are horrilbe, I brush and I brush, and I take her to the vet for cleanings and nothing is helping. Does anyone have an advice? I'm worried her teeth will fall out, then what? how will I feed her? She's on dry food now.

My Yorkie has bad teeth?
The best food so far Hill's prescription T/D. I have seen dogs go on it and they don't have to get dental cleanings nearly as often, or sometimes at all. Unfortunately bad teeth is a problem that comes with Yorkies. It comes in a small bites size for little guys like your girl. Ask the vet about it, they should have it or a least be about to order it for you. More than your normal dog food but definantly less than having to put her under anesthesia everytime for a dental cleaning. Good luck :)
Reply:I had a friend that's dog had to get he's teeth pulled..the dog only ate wet food after that. I guess if he's teeth are bad now not much you can do.
Reply:Unfortunately small dogs are very prone to dental problems. Keep her on a dry kibble, try those dental maintenance bones, and make regular appts with your vet or groomer to have her teeth cleaned. Good luck :)
Reply:If you have done all that you say you have done then I would guess that possibly she has a genetic defect as far as her teeth are concerned.

Other than put her on special food I cannot see what else you can possibly do.

Good luck!
Reply:Some breeds are just prone to bad teeth. You've done everything right for her. When the time comes that her teeth have to be pulled the vet will let you know. I was babysitting an old greyhound who had all his teeth pulled a few years ago and he did just wonderfully on a diet of his regular hard food, moistened with warm water. Because he was old and to encourage him to eat, he also got either cottage cheese, canned tuna, ham or chicken added. He did just fine on that diet for years and when the time comes, your girl will be ok too.
