How is sugar bad for the teeth?

I've always heard that sugar is bad for the teeth, but I don't understand why. Does it attack the teeth from the outside or the inside (ie. getting into the bloodstream)? What if I ate a lot of sweets, but always brushed my teeth? Would I be perfectly fine? What else is good or bad for teeth? Thank you.

How is sugar bad for the teeth?
Bateria in the mouth are attracted to sugar and multiply on a sugar diet. They excrete an acid that eats away at tooth enamal. The more they eat, the more they poop, the more they reproduce.

Starving them by cutting back on sugar intake is an easy way to reduce tooth decay.
Reply:sugar feeds the bacteria in your mouth which causes plaque to form on your teeth and eat at the enamal which makes it easier for the bacteria to attack the basic structure of your teeth.
Reply:SUGAR IS BAD FOR YOUR TEETH BECAUSE OF BACTERIA WHICH ARE ALSO IN YOUR MOUTH. SUGAR, ITSELF, DOES NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO TEETH. YOUR BODY REQUIRES A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF SUGAR IN THE BLOOD.
Reply:it causes bacteria that allows it to eat away at you enamal
Reply:Sugar or any sweet is not actually bad on your teeth as long as you drink plenty of water, brush and floss your teeth and make sure you visit your dentist every six months.
Reply:im not sure about the sugar, but ive heard that soft carbohydrates are worse... b/c they just sit and sit there on you teeth till you brush them.
