Why do people in America think people in the UK have bad teeth?

I have been to America and have seen lots and lots of people with awful teeth, and most keids with flawed teeth in the UK have braces, if the parents can't afford then, they often get them done on the NHS, we also have free NHS dentistry. We use the same technology and that standard of medical training is at the very least equal to the US. i don't see many people with bad teeth and see equal numbers in the US. Is it just because of Hollywood celebrities willingness to have their teeth ripped out and replaced with new 'fake' ones that people think this?

Why do people in America think people in the UK have bad teeth?
Citizens of the United States do think that, but only to make themselves feel better to reasure themselves that they are the best country in the world, ha ya right. What many people in the US don't know is alot of the freedoms they have over here is shared with many many european countries, plus those same countries have free healthcare to a point, something they will never have, along with a eco friendly goverment, when will the US catch up with the rest of the world. that is what Iwant to know. Oh ya brits have big ears too.
Reply:probably
Reply:IT'S A SCIENTIFIC FACT THAT THE UK ESPECIALLY HAS GENETICALY DEFICIENT TEETH. YOU MAY HAVE BEEN TO ALOT OF PLACES AND SEEN ALOT OF TEETH, BUT YOU NEED TO LOOK AT THE FACTS.
Reply:It's just another stereotype...I'm American but I don't believe any of those stereotypes...Some people have bad teeth, some people don't, no matter where they live, right?..=)
Reply:The USA think they r the biggest and the best and they can catogerize entire countries by a few accurances.
Reply:because many moveis were made of th british in th 1800 tim setting and most look stupid have guns and rotting teeth
Reply:Americans need stereotypes and thats part of it. They think we all have bad teeth, all talk in a stupid stiff upper lip accent, all live in london and all frequently have tea with the queen. What fools they are.
Reply:That is a stereotype that comes from LONG ago. You know, the UK was war torn at one time. They didn't have a lot of money to put toward programs like free dentistry. Priorities had to be set to get things up and running and prospering again. Dentistry wasn't high on the list. Watch some old movies from Britain. Most of the actors DID have bad teeth. If they weren't discolored, they were extremely crooked. So...TODAY the stereotype may not be true, but it was in the past.

Everyone is stereotyped though. The UK has the 'bad teeth' thing. We have the 'Ugly American'. It happens.
Reply:because we all saw the movie "austin powers, international man of mystery' ... which only re-enforced the stereotype
Reply:Yes, I see plenty of bad teeth here in the USA. But whenever I have seen a British person, they've had bad teeth. Poor, rich, famous, old, young........all of them have had bad teeth. Over here, it's only the people who can't afford to take care of them (or don't care about hygiene).
Reply:It's the old limey stereotype from 200 years ago still going strong.
Reply:Because u don't believe in cosmetic teeth. We are about yikes 15= 20 yrs into our new perfect teeth. My dentist Wynn Okuda does the Miss America's. Can not afford him now but I was his guinea pig. My bonds are still there. You Brits will follow up as usual. Cheers mate.
Reply:a lot of it's tv....look at the actors in american dramas and the ones in eastenders and check out their teeth....there
Reply:Well, my best mate has been having an intense relationship (mainly by phone and email) for a year with an American woman (he did stay with her for a month) but she said one day out of the blue that she couldn't possibly think of marrying him because his teeth are not good (crooked). So I think teeth are very important (far too important) to Americans. Of course, this may have been a decoy but all American people I have met nearly always have good teeth. Why is it so important?
Reply:Because bad teeth in the UK is endemic, and has been for a good few hundred years! During the age of exploration, after British ships landed on some of the islands in the Pacific, dental problems suddenly burgeoned. It's much better now though! I came to England when I was 19 and I had never had so much as a toothache, and had never needed to visit a dentist. Within 13 years, I was visiting the dentist practically every week! And yes, I did brush and floss regularly. Things are better now however.
Reply:When I first got back here in the US after a few years in Europe, I took a hitchhiking trip down south and I was absolutely amazed by the teeth I saw. It was my first experience (while a thinking person) with the US health system. I could not wait to go back to Europe.

The problem with Brits' teeth is that we seem to see mostly people with big, horse like teeth and here in the US, we like only the small, perfect, pearly whites. As in Hollywood, as you mentioned yourself.

What can I say? We're extremely shallow people willing to spend a whole lot of money on perfect (?!?) teeth!
Reply:It's a stupid stereotype.

They think all Brits have bad teeth.

They think the English are all posh and all live in London and all personally know the Queen.

Most don't even know where Wales is.

And they think all Scottish people, such as myself, wear kilts at all times and all live in Edinburgh.

They get odd ideas lol.
Reply:It's a dumb sterotype spread by the ignorant.

They compare Jessica Alba to Prince Charles, and then extrapolate from there.
Reply:America is so big it is a world un to itself. Therefore most Americans have no real travel experience abroad. So they rely on films and stereotypes to judge what other country's are like.

To them the Scots are kilted ginger-men.

The Brits are bowler hatted, tea drinking toffs from London.

The Japanese are in awe of America with there cameras out taking pictures of anything and everything.

The Aussies are all con men.

The french all smell bad.

I could go on and on. But what they don't realise is that the whole WORLD has the same image of them. (not a good one to say the least)

So don't blame Americans for believing a stereotype, just pitty them for having such a small minded view on the world an being so inbred!!! (only joking).

At the end of the day they are missing out so pitty them for that.
