Why do many American think that English people have bad teeth?

Really I live in the UK and they don't seem to have worse teeth than anywhere else I've been. Where does the stereotype come from and don't say Austin Powers because that was part of the joke.

Why do many American think that English people have bad teeth?
americans are fat bastards and eat a lot of meat. Due to this they have to constantly floss and take care of their teeth. Americans also have whole businesses dedicated to whitening teeth with lasers.

actually I live in america but I have lived in the UK as well. over 1/3 or americans are obese...statisticlly..this does MAKE america fat bastards

The english dont really have laser whitnening or bleaching trends that asmericans have had for decades. Americans like thier superficiality, cover up the weakspots.....
Reply:It's simple, look at yourself on the mirror. C'mon lad, no need to drag about something, it's on you.
Reply:I think it's just another stereotype. Just as many in the UK think all Americans are fat.
Reply:Why do you guys think we are all hicks without shoes on, walking around in our underwear, robbing the first rich guy we see walk by?
Reply:i used to work in the hotel industry and i checked in quite a few english people with deep yellow, grayish and greenish looking teeth. most people from the western part of the world don't normally have such a severe problem.
Reply:Sorry, sir, but sad to say I have seen alot of British teeth (and I have not seen any of those creepy little Austin Powers movies) and the primary difference I can see is that the British (and alot of Europeans as well) don't seem to be as concerned about the alignment of their teeth and do not seek orthodontic treatment (or veneers) as commonly as do we Americans. That is not at all to say that the British, or anyone else for that matter, are lacking in dental hygine or the care of their dental health...just not as concerned with dental appearance and cosmetics.
Reply:may be it's from pictures in the news. prince charles, could he be your poster boy?
Reply:Every single British person I have EVER met, (I worked in the hospitality biz in Orlando) have either bad breath, things in their teeth, or really bad teeth. Sorry. I am only speaking from my experience. They are the nicest and definately funniest set of people. A real blast to drink with. They just need better flouride or something in the water.
Reply:I have this friend living in London. She sent me an article not long ago, title: "Rotten to the roots", it mentions the poor condition of their teeth, in general, and the high costs of dental service in the UK. Many Britons travel to East European countries to have implants made as one of these costs about 2,000 pounds in the UK. For that money they spend a week in Budapest, all inclusive.
Reply:I agree with the people on here stating that all the people they have met from britain have bad teeth. I would agree. All the people I've EVER scene on t.v. or in person that are from england have bad teeth. There's nothing wrong with that, it just may be that they don't care as much about there teeth.
Reply:well, it's partially true, and i'm not american. but there are someamericans who have incredible teeth too, white trash and red necks for instance.this happens everywhere.
Reply:hmmmmm.... I've never heard that one before. The only stereotype I've heard is that the English are less affectionate than Americans (and I doubt that's true anyway). There is always the possibility that this stereotype you talk about doesn't exist. But if it does exist, I would hope that most Americans know the difference between stereotypes and the actual truth.
Reply:Maybe it was Queen Elizabeth or something...I remember that my teacher said that she ate tons of chocolate...
