I'm British and i dont know anyone with "bad" teeth

Why do people say that the British have bad teeth? Its the japanese who have the bad teeth!?

Reply:It's because unlike the USA for example our water supply doesn't contain fluoride. As a result our teeth tend to stain more because of it.
Reply:Now that the British have added floride to their water supplies this doesn't seem as pervasive. The one other stereotype about the physical appearance of many British people that still holds true, however, is their propensity for pale, sun-starved skin coloring. British people, and the English ones in particular, are always real easy to pick out on a beach. Ask any lifeguard in Santa Monica.

Reply:By bad teeth do you mean crooked? In many countries (USA, Canada, South Africa, etc) once a child reaches early teens , in some cases earlier, if they have crooked teeth, or a mouth crowded with teeth, they are seen by an orthodontist and have to wear braces for a while to straighten the teeth. In Britain it is rare for parents to take their kids to an orthodontist, because of the cost, so that they grow up with horrible, crooked teeth that go bad easily because they cannot be cleaned properly due to the over-crowding.;
Reply:I don't know if this has anything to do with it but years ago there was an American tv show called M*A*S*H. They had a show on there where they had some British soldiers. There was a dispute about giving the British soldiers tea to drink. I know it was just a tv show but I remember others saying that too much tea was bad for the tea and not the best thing for soldiers to drink who have had serious injuries. Something to do with something in the tea attacking something in the body.
Reply:i think its an old stereotype that doesnt apply anymore. however americans tend to whiten/ bleach their teeth a lot more. blondies answer was stupid.. she obviously hasnt lived in britain cos if she had shed know that braces are funded by the NHS so parents dont have to pay for their kids' teeth to be fixed.
